All those ideas of yours are held by many of us. The world's population has never been higher than it is today. Combine that with the economic growth of China and India and once considered, 3rd world countries, and you have an explosion of problems with the resources we are extracting and the pollution growing exponentially. We haven't resolved what we are to do now that Australian re-recyclables are no longer being accepted by China.
Australia’s recycling waste is likely being sent to landfill as waste companies are forced to stockpile amid the fallout from China’s crackdown on foreign waste, experts say.
In addition, there are warnings that excessive stockpiling of unwanted recycling will create dangerous fire hazards, as ratepayers in Victoria prepare to pay more for their recycling waste disposal.
China is Australia’s biggest market for recycling waste but since January it has restricted imports of Australian plastic, textiles and mixed paper because of its high contamination rate.Up until the ban, Australia had been sending 619,000 tonnes of recycling waste to China every year - almost 12 times the weight of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Now there are concerns the unwanted waste is being relegated to landfill with no solution to the problem in sight.
Malthus, who told us that if we overpopulate it won't happen as the food supply is finite and we will simply die from starvation. But then technology has enabled mankind to still propogate and not starve. But now we have a different problem - climate change. And now death because of floods, fires, etc. But the death rate is insufficient to reduce adequately our ever expanding population. The motivation to reproduce ourselves is based on very personal decisions, and not on macro considerations.
I also don't wish to die. The life force within us remains strong for the vast majority of people and diminishes only with extreme ill health....where there's no quality of life expectations remaining for us.
