@picastoc - so sad - in reality - I have never envied skinny people - I remember feeling protective of my tall and skinny model friend, because when I first met her she was in her late 60s and already showing signs of not being too sure of her 'step' - I met her at French classes in town - I remember stepping out in front of her a number of times, when crossing a road - don't know what made me do this, but she seemed frail rather than skinny and beautiful, of course there is the lined face of super-skinny people. I miss her now, as she still speaks the 'Viennese' I grew up with - she married an Australian late in life - must contact her - thanks for the reminder. I will 'forget' about the other one, as she won't know one way or the other, it's just her husband I feel sad for, but always felt that way about him, as she insisted on her smoking habit inside the house and out, despite his sensitivity to it. I always found it a chore when visiting.
Last night, I was looking for inspiration on my bookshelves to craft a poem, but got hold of a Somerset Maugham 'Novel' - the first story was about three fat lady friends who 'took the cure' together - once a year - visiting a spa, where there was also a prescriptive diet and they are watching each other's eating habits, when a fourth enters the group, who is totally unconcerned about diet. It's supposed to be funny, I didn't find it so, but Somerset Maugham was originally a doctor, so he must have seen his fair share of dieters - so what we do now as a culture, is nothing new.
Go well
