I like real grass but pulled out all of it in the front garden - water bills started to go up and with the cost of fertilizer and petrol ended up replacing the grass with gravel - but was warned about the heat generated in summer. There is a 6 or so ft tall hedge along the front fence so still have greens - I do like my greens whether to look at or as in a veggie dish.
Decided to put in about 30sq m of rolled up turf in the backyard but there is a 10ft tree in the middle - the grass provides a bit of coolness shaded by the tree - since the back of the house is facing west, the tree is handy in summer and being deciduous, plenty of winter avo sun.
