I still remember being in Almaty and everyone was a cab. You’d hail any passing car and pay 100 tenge for a ride anywhere. The roads were full of potholes and the drivers were nuts. One of our party was a bit slow getting into a car which took off rather fast. His leg was still on the pavement and the door open. Scary!!!!!
the bus we took up the mountains was a rickety 1960s style jalopy. Rough as guts. A bit of cognac and vodka does wonders
