You are worrying unnecessarily..!
CATL, in China, the world’s largest Li Battery ..PRODUCER, ..ALREADY, has work well under way, to be producing Sodium-ion Batteries starting in 2023, which, while they won’t be as efficient, as Li-ion, ie, they will be less energy dense, and also heavier, they will be ideal for use in things like ..fixed, home energy storage systems, thus freeing up that application’s hugely growing global demand, for Li, to be used in that ..unsuited, role, and thus, leaving more of it, ie, Li, available to be used in ..the role, which, because of its ..unique ..properties, ie, it’s lightness, and large energy storage density, makes it uniquely suited to ..MOBILITY, and Transport, related applications like EVs, EVTOLS, etc, etc, etc, etc.
The book is still open, on whether CATL’s new Na-ion Batteries will be also used in larger scale ..fixed applications, like Utility scale energy storage systems, which, may..? possibly..? be better serviced by things like large scale Vanadium Flow Batteries.
The other thing to consider though, as far as Utility scale energy goes, is that there is currently a lot of money being poured, globally, into the development of SMRs ‘Small Modular Reactors’ ie, small scale and ‘safely sealed for life’ Nuclear Reactors that will generate only tens, or up to a few hundred, MegaWatts, and can even be made small enough to be transportable, and the first of these are ‘supposed’ to be becoming available around 2030.
So you see, there are a lot of interesting possibilities, ahead of us, but, the one thing that Li is ..uniquely suited to, because of its own inherent properties, is its own, ..indispensable application, in ..Electric Mobility.
