You said - "Sharia law regulates civil matters" - NO. Sharia "law" may be used in the UK in certain civil disputes when and only when both parties agree to its use. They also get to choose between 2 interpretations of Sharia "law" (ie appeal to the Islamic Sharia Council or the newer, smaller, less strict Muslim Arbitration Tribunal). It is not law but is legally binding on parties that volunteer to accept any decisions made.
As to your 40 countries comment, Turkey actually abolished Sharia "law" back in 1924 so instead of following the UK example, why can't we be like Turkey and ban Sharia "law"?
Do you seriously advocate the introduction of such a discriminatory system into Australia, one that does not treat men, women, Muslims and non Muslims equally?
