I'm not sure what you guys are getting worked up about unless it's the long term. It's the smelter that produces the sulphuric.

"Glencore will continue to invest in the long-term future of Mount Isa Mines, including the George Fisher Mine with a current life of mine to 2036, and our zinc-lead concentrator and lead smelter. We also expect the copper smelter and refinery to continue operating to 2030, subject to the approval of additional capital investment."

Further, my take is if Cu prices kick as I and most expect them to by 2030 the equation will change. I have had an indirect holding in Glencore for ages and I expect those guys are doing what they are to ensure that Cu price kicks. It's just a refinement of their Cu assets in the short term. e.g. I think they bought the CSA mine a couple of years ago. They certainly make excellent profits from their trading arm which encompasses most hard commodities and many soft tones.
