Several Fertilizer Stocks Set Highs Following Potash's Higher 3rd-Quarter Earnings and Outlook
    October 25, 2007: 04:41 PM EST

NEW YORK (Associated Press) - Shares of fertilizer companies finished much higher on Thursday, after Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan Inc. reported a 67 percent rise in third-quarter earnings and backed its 2007 outlook.

Potash's stock hit an all-time high of $116.77 on Thursday, and shares rose $5.38, or 4.9 percent, to close at $114.58.

Potash, a Canadian company, said third-quarter earnings rose on strong demand for fertilizer in developing countries. Tight supplies also lifted product prices.

Potash also backed its full-year earnings forecast, expecting strong demand and higher pricing to continue into next year.

"Fertilizer producers continue to post impressive results, as agricultural conditions globally are very strong," Goldman Sachs analyst Edlain Rodriguez wrote in a client note.

Here's how other fertilizer stocks did on Thursday:

The Mosaic Co., up $2.44, or 3.9 percent, to $65.50. Shares set an all-time high of $66.35 earlier in the session.

Agrium Inc., up $2.54, or 4.6 percent, to $57.55. Shares also set an all-time high of $57.97.

CF Industries Holdings Inc., up $1.58 to $84.70. CF's stock set a 52-week high of $85.76 earlier Thursday.
