I think it's highly unlikely that the majors are going to spend tens on billions to hundreds of billions worldwide vaccumming up iron ore resources to then sit on those resources and withhold supply.
Putting aside likely anti-competitive breaches it would be a very expensive strategy to execute in a cost cutting environment which would blow up as soon as higher prices encouraged the steel makers to out-bid the iron-ore miners.
Unfortunately for shareholders it looks like the current SDL management team has been forced into a more pragmatic position than the initial vision sold by the prior team some years back.
