The one big political assumption is that these handouts depend on this tax getting thru parliament in September.
The opposition to the tax and therefore the government handouts, is so widespread that many government backbenchers in marginal seats will be justifiably concerned about their prospects at next election and not vote for the package at the September vote.
And it will take only 1 of them to break rank with Julia for the whole thing to collapse.
But if they support their electorates & don't toe the party line, they will be ostracised by the party & lose preselection for the next election and thus funding to run their campaigns.
But that's OK because their will likely be enough funds out there to subsidise a few backbencers to stand as independants.
