Many of these girls are also users themselves and it was very interesting to talk to them about both sides of the transaction. Obviously this only applies to bricks and mortar fashion sales.
The typical user is described as a broke uni student or sometimes a young mother. Problems with credit cards are often mentioned. I found some evidence that higher quality establishments used zippay. I found very little evidence of preference between the products from the buyers point of view and got the impression that they were happy to use whichever was offered. This is consistent with the sentiment expressed by the fashion girls I overheard discussing the purchase that could not be afforded. Same, same but different.
Besides the snappy name and flash logo what competitive advantage does APT have? More cash advanced to ever more risky clients??
It is interesting to me that APT has positioned itself as a service that allows broke people to spend money. I believe that this is actually a terrible mistake in the long term as it limits the user base to a certain demographic that does not mind signalling that they do not have any money. Established adults will never use APT because it signals very clearly that they are broke! Too embarrassed to use AP! Good thread title perhaps.
Note that the bounce today is on very low volume. I wonder what will happen after the SPP price is set?

Your hypothesis is interesting & no doubt there are some users/maybe quite a number who fill this demographic/socioeconomic position. However your hypothesis that more cash is advanced to more & more risky clients by Afterpay is fundamentally flawed - ie. miss a payment with Afterpay & you're done. No more Afterpay. Ie everyone you say using Afterpay who can't afford it are either using it for the first time & not paying back or your impression of the people you're judging is wrong.
