Mr Lew has been on the Globe share register for more than 12 years and has occasionally thrown his weight around by voting against the remuneration report and other items at the company's annual meetings. Mr Lew's personal wealth is estimated at $2 billion in the BRW Rich List and there is speculation from time to time he could use his Globe stake to try to force a good deal for minority shareholders if the Hill brothers wanted to privatise the company, similar to his exit from Country Road under the broader David Jones buyout by South Africa's Woolworths in 2014.
