Think of it another way. If we have strong cashflow when everyone else is really hurting then we have flexibility to build a company. I'm talking buying distressed assets or merging with with companies that need cash flow. The raising capital previously to get our balance sheet right gives us that flexiblity. It won't happen immediately but probably well before commodity prices recover.
For example today BHP wrote down a large chunk of oil assets. Also we see some predatory behaviour in copper.
