My father used to work at Cheetham salt works in Newcomb, in Geelong, not far from Pt Henry. There were salt evaporation pans there on an industrial scale. The following is from the Point Henry Foreshore Management Plan, May, 2006, p18:

Point Henry, north of the Pier, is identified to be of regional
geological and geomorphological significance as it is the longest elongate cuspate spit in
Port Phillip Bay, and the area to the east is the most extensive accumulation of clearly
defined parallel ridge and lagoon systems in the Bay. The site is noted as being highly
disturbed by industrial and salt evaporation pan development (Rosengren, 1988).
