Maybe they were just complying with the ASX continuous disclosure rule whipsaw ie 24 hours to release after deal is finalised (if market sensitive), and therefore had to announce it.
Potentially there is no hidden agenda behind it.

However credibility has to be earned and proven.
Unfortunately given all the water under the bridge their credibility is totally shot.
