When I stated my apprenticeship as a diesel mechanic I was on about 30 / 40 dollars a week. My last job before I retired was 70 grand a year. (which was good money for working in town) Admittedly I did make some big bucks when I worked in the mines. If I had been like some of my friends and stayed in town on the basic wage my average salary over 40 years would be no were near 60 grand. Thanks to a bit of luck and some wise decisions I'm not doing to bad with investments. However I see where your coming from.
