This discussion is a good example of short term vs long term, trading vs investing. Long term you look at the value of the results per share, short term you look for trading catalysts like potential special dividends.

Buying a BHP PLC share from the poms will increase the EPS just as well as buying back one one the ASX. Actually better to do it there because they can get it cheaper. However short term correct that it will not reduce the volume sloshing around here, regardless of the increase value per share the buyback effect has. Long term it will be reflected in the share price.
