This morning I received a phone call from a man, with a well spoken voice, threatening me that I would be taken to court if didn't pay my income tax debt and providing me with a phone number with a stern demand that I must ring a provided number urgently or else.
Although it did sound like a scam, and my tax affairs are all in order, I still rang the ATO to confirm my tax situation, and to satisfy my belief that this call was a scam, and that the ATO had made no such a call ( which I considered very unlikely) which was confirmed by an ATO officer.
I wonder if anyone on this site has ever received such brazen phone calls.
And yes, it's a long time since I celebrated my 21st birthday, so I wonder if such scams are directed at people of my age and, if so, how did they ascertain my phone number?
