Macquarie Bank keen to buy regional airports, toll roadways in Germany
05.17.2006, 04:38 AM
FRANKFURT (AFX) - Macquarie Bank Limited is interested in acquiring infrastructure providers in Germany, and deals could be announced within six to twelve months, the Financial Times Deutschland reported, citing Macquarie's head of Europe Jim Craig.
The acquisitions would become assets in a new European fund focusing on infrastructure projects, the paper said.
'We always have a list of 25 projects in Europe, including Germany, that we would like to have a closer look at,' Craig said.
Possible takeover targets include regional German airports, toll roadways and in the medium term, even municipal utilities, he said.
'It would surprise me if we don't see a new deal in the next 6 to 12 months,' Craig added.
Macquarie already owns majority stakes in a four kilometre-long tunnel in Rostock, and in a German tank storage business in Tanquid.
Eurotunnel said on Monday it was in talks with Macquarie about the bank taking a stake in the Channel Tunnel operator.
