I recently completed the FINSIA (was Securities Institute) diploma of applied finance and investment. Majored in the Cororate finance stream and did it part time while working.
It depends what you want to get out of it - I'm a CPA but am doing more and more M&A work so it gave me some formal discipline around that. Also I'm a keen stock market punter and the papers I did on mining and also on TA were excellent value.
Yes it is recognised - its not exactly an MBA but it does carry some credibility
