$1m plant fire

A CARINA West almond processing plant fire on Thursday caused about $1 million damage to electrical conveyor belt wiring.
Detective Senior-Constable Matt Pascoe of Robinvale Crime Investigation Unit said the fire was not deemed to be suspicious, but was expected to burn for up to five days.

He said police and CFA were called to the Select Harvests plant about 3.30pm, where about 16,000 tonnes of almond husks and 300 tyres were alight.
CFA units from Robinvale, Mildura, Ouyen, Wemen, Boundary Bend, Annuello and Hattah attended the blaze, along Robinvale-Hattah Road.
“There were also five police units, including Swan Hill Highway Patrol crews, a unit from Nyah West, Robinvale CIU and Robinvale police,” Det Sen-Constable Pascoe said.
“It has been determined that the fire was a result of spontaneous combustion due to low humidity and high winds.”
