    Saw an interesting segment the other night about a farmer whose property was saved from fire by strategic planning of fire retardant trees like willows (among other things).

    Natives like the kurrajong are also good for this (as well as being good shade trees and can also be used for stock feed).

    Not all trees are equal.

    Eucalypts are a fire's best friend. They love fire as it wipes out their competition. I'd be surprised if this species was as dominant as it is today, prior to Aboriginal burning of the last 40,000 years or so.

    Long live the kurrajong! Down with the eucalyptus!
