Here in Queensland our brigade never had any problem getting a permit to burn on council land. In fact the council encouraged burning off and sometimes assisted. On any other land but theirs they were not interested and had no say in it anyway. This year there was also massive hazard reduction burning in nearby national parks, it covered the town in smoke for several days and some residents were whinging about that.
