    Hi groundzero,
Hanrahan is correct... Firefox is installed on your computer so it has nothing to do with the internet but something to do with your browser.
Think of firefox as your physical TV and the internet is the TV stations channels...so unless the entire internet is down ( which it isnt ) then its going to be something to do with your browser firefox.
Now the error your getting is a little odd...
Have you tried to manually go to any other websites other than your homepage?
If you get the same message no matter what website you try then its proably one of the following possibilities:
    1. Shutdown completely and reboot computer... DO NOT just restart computer as this does not clear what is called the virtual memory and most errors will come back on just a standard restart
    2. The temp files, cookies or history of your firefox is corrupt and cleaning them out ( which you should do at least every few weeks anyway ) should fix issue ( make sure you shut down and restart firefox after clearing all of these items )
    3. You may have a malicious program called a website hijacker... these little buggers redirect you to a page no matter what you type into the address bar...
    a) try opening another browser like IE or google chrome and see if same issue ( if you have them )
    b) try running a FULL scan of antivirus AND Anti-Malware program as well ( this is a must as a lot of anti-virus software does not pick up malware and these type of programs )...if you dont have a malware program then i suggest downloading a good one called Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
    4. Firefox could be corrupt but it is unusual you would be getting that error message if it was firefox... normally page cannot be displayed, program not opening, program doing strange things is normally a symptom of firefox being corrupt but hey... ive seen stranger things happen...
If that is the case then firstly make sure you have a working browser like IE or google chrome because you will need to uninstall firefox from the control panel using the uninstall feature and if you dont have a backup browser then you wont be able to reinstall firefox from their website...
IE comes with windows so if you have a windows OS then IE will definitely be located on your machine but make sure you know where it is located first...
There are a number of other possibilities like a proxy settings...but it would be virtually impossible for me to guide you thru without spending hours writing things down :)
    Good Luck mate...
