Any property takes a lot of effort to maintain - fire prevention and protection, flood (keeping drains clear) etc. - in some areas -- earthquake prep. everything has it's own maintenance issues and it's very time consuming and very expensive --
the news is worse ---------- we aren't good at it
not only that - but, most people aren't even aware what is entailed - they think the roads just stay without lots of potholes or they magically heal overnight and weeds just disappear like they never happened
then, when you interrupt their day with smoke or noise or blocked roads - they bitch about the inconvenience
that's us
just a normal house should have some basic prep - even in a city - where the risks are actually quite high if something goes kaput
some food in the cupboard - and, either very long lasting or in date. Some drinking water - several litres - enough for several days. COFFEE and a way to make hot water. Some comms. Some light sources, full or near full tank of fuel, car keys always in the one spot ----- you never know what happens -
but, it all takes effort and often is a state of mind - which most don't have.
