Yeh I guess it has taken us over 20 years of hard work to become "fortunate"
We eat out of our garden every day of the year. We are off grid so the work to achieve that has been a lot of effort over the years , but it certainly is rewarding now that is all working for us thats for sure. Harvesting our own water to run a micro-hydro setup to make power along with the usual solar panels for power as well as hot water with which we heat our home. We apply the permaculture principles to our environment so as to make it sustainable over time. Hopefully the grand kids will reap the benefits long after we are gone.
If you read Bill Mollisons work you might be surprised how much you could fit into a small area without the need to experiment too much.
Our block was all gravel and clay so I had to learn how to make soil to even get started. I probably should write a book on it one day.....
