THE Bougainville Copper Foundation (BCF) has given educational materials to the children of Panguna in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville. The foundation's donation of 120kg of books and educational materials left the Port Moresby warehouse of stationery firm Theodist this week bound for the beautifully-named Deo Mori (God's Country) primary school, located close to the suspended copper mining operation.BCF board member Mel Togolo presented the books to Thaddeus Itoro representing the board of governors of Deo Mori School. Mr Togolo said providing all of the titles requested by the school had been a challenge, an indication that the curriculum applied at the school today was based a few years back in the missing years, allowing returning students and teachers to see some familiar books, and to bridge the gap created by school closures. BCF continues to sponsor hundreds of school-age childrenand young adults in tertiary studies, aiming at building skills that could help re-build the social and economic status of the Autonomous Region.
