I think that the "kindness" of ordinary Australians was exploited or coercively manipulated during the whole ssm pseudo debate, and our political classes aided & assisted in the whole charade, abstentions from the ssm vote was to be expected from some ethical or apathetic quarters, but it is the actual numbers within votes that win or lose the campaign, the abstention numbers need to be calculated into the outcome, in my opinion the ssm vote is not a majority based mandate, ( just do the math on the voters roll numbers) so its real result and the language along with its validity will always be called onto question...
