LYNAS said it would begin operations in the coming days at a new rare earths processing plant in Malaysia that has been hit by repeated legal challenges, sparking a rally in its shares.
The Australian company in a statement said about 100 containers of rare earths concentrates have now arrived in Kuantan, and a significant portion is now at its materials plant and will feed the kiln over the coming days.
The news buoyed Lynas' shares, with the counter rising 10 per cent to $0.695 in morning trading, outpacing the broader Australian market's 1.2 per cent gain.
The processing plant has been delayed by protests and challenges from locals concerned over potential health risks, despite the Malaysian government having granted Lynas a temporary operating license. The company has repeatedly said the plant is safe.
