Australian miner Renaissance Minerals (Cambodia) Ltd has started the process of shipping gold ore bars refined from its Okvau Gold Mine project in eastern Cambodia’s Mondulkiri province for purification abroad.
The firm started commercial operations of its project in Mondulkiri province’s Keo Seima district on June 21.
The company is filing required documents for export of the gold ore bars, said Yos Monirath, general director of mines at the Ministry of Mines and Energy.
It has a target of producing 250 kilogrammes of gold ore bars a month. The semi-finished bars are 90 percent pure.Upon refining they will be 99.9 percent pure.
The project’s status as the Kingdom’s first commercial mine comes after 14 years of exploration and research by Renaissance. Cambodia expects to receive $40 million in royalties and taxes from the precious metal towards the national budget.
