FGR’s Work on Graphene

In 2016 FGR has made considerable progress in its graphene strategy. Having determined that the science involved in its electro-chemical exfoliation production method was sound the board decided to move from laboratory scale to a production size graphene cell.

Design and construction of the cell began in May 2016 and the cell was ready for commissioning in late September 2016. Since that time the cell has been optimised and is now regularly producing high quality, few layer graphene with a large platelet size.



Phase 1 Unit being run at Nagrom, Kenwick, Western Australia

This simple, elegant unit is capable of producing 5 tonnes per annum of graphene. The unit is scalable and operators do not require specialist training.

The small footprint means a customer may install the unit at their own premises and produce ‘just in time’ graphene, thus eliminating the costs related to transport and storage and other logistical and HS&E issues.

Graphene Product

Using Sri Lankan graphite FGR is able to obtain a conversion rate of >80% of the carbon to graphene. 1 tonne (1,000 kg) of 95% TGC ore will produce 760 kg of graphene platelets. The highest conversion rate in the world.

Again, the unique raw material when combined with our process is producing large size platelets between 45µm and 78µm on a regular basis.




What is FGR doing next?

FGR are now consistently producing quantities of high quality, low cost graphene
Phase 2 will address

• Methodologies for screening and sizing, washing and drying of the graphene being produced.
• Bulk packaging of graphene products, tonnes not kg’s.
• Several methods are under consideration, including the use of secondary sonication screens and the use of a Vortex Fluidic Device (VFD) and Turbo Thin Film processing technology.
• Engaging marketing personnel to develop sales outcomes
