This kind of gear is only suitable for fighting in 3rd world countries. If we want to protect ourselves against China (our declared Nuke powered enemy) then we need -Nuke powered/nuke armed subs -stealth bombers Nuke armed -National missile defence shields -intercontental ballistic missiles capable of delivering Nukes to China.
Otherwise we're picking a row that we can't win and merely buying readily targetable hardware for a Chinese turkey shoot!
If we can't beat the Chinese , then we should keep our mouths shut & our powder dry until such time that we can afford to, IMO. This is why we need tax our resources for national security reasons because, lets face it, if the Chinese attack us it wont be for our city high-rises, they have millions of them at home!
We simply can't rely on a economically crumbling US to defend us into the future and we have to decide now what is best for Aus; not he USA, China or others!
The likely scenario is that the globe will be divided into two within a decade: -The Western US zone -The Eastern China zone
& We'll be "Simple Simon" in the middle!
The US does not want our Iron Ore, Coal, LNG,and farm'food products; in fact they are a competitor in global markets on all of the above!
