It is very saline. Normal seawater is ~35ppt. Fitz bay gets above 50ppt at times. This causes stress to the fish via osmotic pressure.
Water circulation through the gulf is poor, particularly at the top end.
Proposed Desal plant for BHP OD expansion is a threat to any future operations. Probably THE worst place for a desal plant in SA, the gulf will be *****
