agree with your argument re relevance. The problem for the ALP however is that they are trying to walk a fine line between their traditional base (which we can argue to various degree they have lost touch with) and ensuring at the same time they collect the inner city vote, which would otherwise go to the greens. take Melbourne as an eg....Labor primary vote has declined on average by 25% in Melbourne, Wills, Batman....around 15% in Melbourne Ports. similar decline in the other major cities.....

these two opposing forces ie working middle class versus greenies, wealthy tech class, fringe loonies is driving fissures in the party and diluting the ALP brand as they struggle to define a clear concise image of what they stand for and represent.

Its not easy to be saying on the one hand "we will help suburban communities by promoting industry like manufacturing" and then in the same breath be talking about damaging these same industries with taxes and penalties for polluting. The whole of Australia saw this with Shortens ridiculous messaging on Adani depending on which state he was in....In Melbourne ADANI was bad, in Brisbane ADANI was good.

"50% EVs by 2030", "50 renewables by 2030" " net zero by 2050" ....these types of statements are meaningless to the average housewife in Laverton or Ipswich
