IMHO, some one was on holidays and to ensure that the information was not leaked to the market before the person returned to hit to go button on the announcement they thought that they should have a trading halt instead.
That or trying to score a bit of airtime in the AFR since it is lacking during the holidays. $3 for 48 pages today, I thought someone had stolen half my paper when I picked it up this morning.
