    re: yoohooo eric-flag burning punishment I remember my father-in-law making similar complaints about anti Australianism many years ago. I think the perception comes with age and the idea that things were better "then". A sort of selective remembering. The young have every right to have their say in their future and deserve to be listened to even if you don't agree with what they are saying. How many flag burnings ar there a year? 2, 5 maybe? Do you really want to bring in draconian solutions for what is really a small number of incidents. That is the price we pay for living in a democracy. Any law to make it a criminal offence will not be framed in " if you burn the flag you will go to jail for 2 years". It will be a complex piece of legal jargon that will undermine other freedoms, except you won't find out until it's too late. However, any foreign national who burns an Australian flag on Australian soil should be deported.
