"In 2007 Flannery told the Sydney Morning Herald ; “The actual trajectory we’ve seen in theArctic over the last two years, if you follow that, that implies that theArctic ice cap will be gone in the next five to 15 years."
No self respecting scientist would make such a ridiculous prediction based on 2 years worth of observations. This kind of dribble would only be acceptable in an Arts faculty where fiction is the usual currency. We have here a Lysenkoist.
Stalinised science was pioneered by arch stalinist Lysenko who was stalin's go to scientist. Among a host of fake scientific claims this guy reckoned he could get grass to produce wheat.
What allowed Lysenko to keep going was that he had the backing of the stalinist State. Those who disagreed with his fantasies disappeared.
This is the danger that the current crop of Lysenkoists pose to the general science community. It begins with reprimands, then sackings. As their predictions continue to fail they are forced to begin incarcerating their vocal opponents and as in the USSR it leads to executions. All to silence the genuine scientists. This is the trajectory that we are on.
