    On the flat/spherical Earth "issue".
    Maybe the Biblical author was looking at the issue from the point of view of an observer on the earth, and perceived the motion of the sun, stars, and the moon from that point of view.
    If he/she was talking about the shape of the Earth rather than the movements of the sun, etc, relative to the observer on Earth, then they were mistaken in calling it flat in shape.

    On the Lazarus story, the narrative doesn't specify whether the rich man was punished for eternity for lacking compassion/sympathy for a fellow human being. Punishing the rich man for eternity would be showing a lack of compassion/sympathy.
