Its greenhouse design grows algae without tubes and uses an automated harvesting system, according to CEO Simon Upfill-Brown. The water in which the algae grow is recycled.

GreenFuel and Aurantia now have a 100 square-meter prototype operating. It's next stage, slated for completion in about a year, is a 1000-meter installation.

It hopes that by 2011, it will have a full-scale operation, which will take up 100 hectares.

A 100-hectare algae farm would consume about 50,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year--about 10% of its the cement factory's annual emissions--and grow about 25,000 tonnes of algae biomass.

Dr. Isaac Berzin, founder of Greenfuel Technologies have developed a revolutionary technology to produce biofuels from algae that are bred on gases emitted by power plants, especially coal plants.

"I want Israel to become an international center of knowledge in the realm of alternative energy. The world is looking for solutions in this sphere, and in my view Israel is in a very special position. The toolbox that is needed to create solutions of this kind is here."

whose our counterpart to Berzin carrying the flag for us???

GreenFuel, Aurantia announce joint algae project
Associated Press 10.21.08, 10:34 AM ET

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Biofuels company GreenFuel Technologies said it is moving forward on a 247 acre project in Spain that will grow algae for use in fuel, as well as food and animal feed.

The company is partnering with Spain's Aurantia SA on the $92 million venture at the Holcim cement plant near Jerez, Spain, where they plan to build greenhouses producing 25,000 tons of algae biomass per year.

note, to the food detractors of this technolgy

"that will grow algae for use in fuel, as well as food and animal feed."
ie process produces food and animal feed from pollutants. Now isn't that a good solution?
