Because the majority of sellers are chinese/korean.
They all sell the same stuff,pleny of Calvin Klein Copies,socks and ladies undies.I was selling th eoriginal Von Dutch then,only for about 1 month,then the 5 dollar copies appeared,I got in and I got out.
When there is a new trend inthe young people's urban gear ,all the stall holders s get in and sell the same stuff.
Any market you go around sydney is the chinese selling the same stuff..
Six or seven years ago the chineman brought all the 2 dollar stuff into Oz and sold it at the markets.They have their families factories in Chin ato support them,they donthave to pay them,onnly 10% gst,the rest is all cash.
Then the big dep stores[Warehouse/Go Lo/and all the 2 dollar shops wanted a piece of the cake,now the market is sagurated with cheap stuff,and no one to sell to.
Large stores need to buy many containers full to get a low price.
Go to Alexandria in sydney[MNB,Mayvic,etc}
packed to the rafters.
Is ok in China where you have millions of shoppers but not in a small market like Oz.
I have been doing the markets for over 25 years,things have changed.
