The biggest threat we've looked at however is unlimited data plans, as is now the case in the US. In a world where you offer unlimited data to consumers for a fixed price per month, the threats to telcos become huge.

To date in Australia, non of the telcos have wanted to go down that path. They've seen what happens when you give data free days to people and how nuts they can go. The reality is though, with 5G and other technological breakthroughs, unlimited data will eventually become the norm. It will be up to the telcos to reduce their costs per gigabyte, to see which will have the greatest economies of scale. Or they will just offer mobile subscription services with unlimited data for that service as mentinoed earlier.

What determines which path we go down, depends on how bloody the rivalry between telcos get in each geographic country that SYT goes in. This the elephant in the room so to speak, for the industry.

I think this has been raised before. Unlimited plans are expensive and are throttled back when you reach a certain limit. They aren't as appealling as they sound and apparently not highly lucrative for telcoms. That's what I have heard anyway.
