    Could you keep the property and borrow against it?

    You wouldn't have to borrow 100% of the value either. Maybe just a percentage covered by the rental income?

    That way you still have your property should the stock market crash, and you have your shares should the market start bouncing some time soon.

    i.e. not having all your eggs in the one basket.

    I guess it depends on how reliant you are on the rental return for every day cash flow?
