    What a complete imbecile!!
First of all the flood a 100 years ago before the climate supposedly starting changing was substantially higher than what we are currently experiencing

Second if it is because of the burning of coal it is the consumers fault for not reducing energy consumption

third this argument would be irrelevant if we werent using coal power and instead were using nuclear but no the latte sipping inner city hippies scream the house down as soon as the idea to DEBATE nuclear not actually implement it just debate it

This is just a blatant attempt push Kev's version of the mining tax through to nationalise an industry, I would love to say that it is good intentions crippled by blind ignorance but surely they must look at places like Venezuela to realise this doesnt work.... The alternative to good intentions being that these communists are trying to create an elite ruling class seems more and more credible each time they open their mouths

Sorry if this sounds like a non-sensical rant rather than a balanced post..... I dont really have a political persuasion yet this lot just bring out the worst in me

GREENS leader Bob Brown says the coal mining industry should foot the bill for the Queensland floods because it helped cause them.

The floods are Queensland's worst for nearly 40 years, with more than 26,000 homes affected and at least 16 people killed.

Senator Brown said the Federal Government should impose the original version of the Resources Super Profits Tax, and use the funds to pay for the clean-up.

"It's the single biggest cause - burning coal - for climate change and it must take its major share of responsibility for the weather events we are seeing unfolding now," he said in Hobart today.

"We know that the oceans around Australia are at record high temperatures, and that's causing the moisture in the air which is leading to these catastrophic floods.

"It is costing billions of dollars, besides the pain, the anguish, the loss of life, the destruction and it should not be left to ordinary taxpayers to bear the full brunt of that."
