Also, to answer a question above from a while ago, I am not an expert in construction. I work in robotics in the medical field which is why And how I found FBR 10 years ago.
But nearly all Florida home construction is block built. Wood homes are looked down upon. I thought it was because of hurricanes, but that is the second reason. The first reason is termites.
In Tampa and most of Florida 90% of new construction homes are blocks.
