My timber engineering lecturer was telling us "The australian hardwood is the hardest timber in the world. But unfortunately the australian termite has the hardest teeth in the world". We have this useful advantage in Australia of lots of cypress pine which is basically termite proof. My floorboards made of it and during coronavirus when our treated pine stocks were depleted for months, I ended up building my front fence out of it. So with FBR, given there are carbon neutral cement solutions out there, they will be able to optimise the density of blocks for lower resource consumption. And I personally think the timber resources should be more used in medium rise 'flat pack' construction which is being proven more and more in Europe. Leave the 3 storey and below to FBR robots. Near me in Sydney, you see some expensive masonry builds but also some elcheapo brick veneer duplexes, and the heating/cooling challenges plus the flimsyness of it I question, especially since realestate is so expensive. And they're still on slab, so FBR perfect alternative.
