This article analyses the decreased in project investment in the water treatment industry in China in the first half of 2021. However, the amount is still a staggering RMB180b (about US$38b).
What I find interesting here is the focus.
"starting from July 1, 2021, "Rural Sewage Purification Device" (JB/T 14095-2020), "Water Pollutant Discharge Standard for Electronic Industry" (GB 39731-2020), "Pollution Control Standard for Medical Waste Treatment and Disposal" (GB 39707-2020), Hebei's "Management Drainage Facilities Operation Regulations in Limited Space" and other policy standards have been implemented. Project investment in the water treatment industry is expected to increase in the second half of the year."
The implementation of policy standards that has now put in place for future installations. The old cheaper activated sludge treatment methods alone are no longer be able to make the mark.

At present, the eutrophication of water bodies has become the norm. For the treatment of pollutant nitrogen, nitrification-denitrification is generally used to complete the denitrification. However, in this process, a large amount of aeration energy consumption and organic carbon sources are consumed, which will not only cause higher costs, but also cause secondary Pollution, and anammox technology can improve efficiency on the basis of maintaining low costs.
At the same time, simultaneous nitrification and denitrification can reduce the demand for carbon sources in sewage treatment, save energy consumption for aeration, and reduce sludge production. It is also a new technology for energy saving and consumption reduction of sewage.
The core difficulty is still not precisely controlling the reaction conditions to meet the needs of overall aerobic and partial hypoxia. The biofilm method is one of the effective ways to realize simultaneous nitrification and denitrification."
Yes, its talking about us (MABR) .... and MBR too.
And this is also why I put this post here under Fluence Competitors. I think what will follow will be the competition in the decentralized WWTP in the Chinese rural space between MBR and MABR. As for MABR, we are still about the only one with the working decentralized modules whereas there are plenty of players in the MBR. It is also worth noting that MABR is more operating cost effective as well as a longer life spent on the membrane. (2 years for MBR vs 8-10 years for MABR)
It will now rest on the relationship between our partners and the customers, the ability to compete on CAPEX and OPEX.
