The Chinese tend to harp on about favouritism and opportunity in Malaysia towards the Malays. It is unjust but we in the West accepted affirmative action for women and disabled people and that's what has been applied towards the Malays.
Islam has been steadily moving to the Right, even in Malaysia. Small children used to swim naked in the Kampungs in the 80s, but not any more. Strong conservative influences in islam and other religions are behind the latest conflict situation.
