The following has no relevance to the topic of Novartis or Voltaren but might still provide some interest in relation to lucrative deals between a small biotech and big pharma in the field of transdermal drug delivery technologies.

"In June 2008, TransPharma Medical and Eli Lilly entered into a licensing agreement for the development and commercialization of our ViaDor-hPTH product for the treatment of osteoporosis. The product, which is administered transdermally using our proprietary technology, is currently in Phase II clinical testing. Under the terms of the agreement, Lilly will obtain exclusive worldwide rights to develop and market the ViaDor hPTH product. In return, TransPharma was granted a $35M upfront payment and will be entitled to development and sales milestones as they occur, and to royalties from sales of the product".

TransPharma Medical Ltd is a company from Isreal who were one of only seven Biotech companies which specialize in Drug Delivery Technologies that were invited to present at last years prestigious BioPartnering Conference in Europe.

This event is one of the largest on the Pharmaceutical calender with a long list of giant sponsors including Amgen, AstraZeneca, Bristol-Myers Squibb Co, Genzyme Corporation, GlaxoSmithKline, Merck & Co, Novartis International AG, Oncomed Pharmaceuticals Inc, Pfizer Inc, Roche, Takeda Pharmaceuticals to name a few.

Of course many of us will remember being advised that Dr Hammond was also invited to present on behalf of OBJ Limited at this prestigious event, but I've often wondered if the market actually realized the significance of this, or even the fact that OBJ Limited was the ONLY Australian Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical company to be invited?
