I disagree with your hypothesis for many reasons.
Your viewpoint of confrontation is akin to that of western culture.
There are other much more peaceful cultures such as Buddhism where respect for others is placed at a higher value than one being right.
Such respect for authority, teachers and parents in western culture has diminished greatly over the years in places like Australia. Having a voice has come at a great cost.
