This may be drawing a long bow, but nevertheless, I'd be interested to run this one up the flagpole and see what people reckon.
As may have been noticed Twiggy's been suggesting that Australian iron ore ( today's AFR) may be superseded by Simandou Africa's, higher grade iron ore as China strives to produce green, lower emissions steel.
However , Fortescue is currently in the process of:
a) Decarbonising our iron ore mining operations
b) Increasing exports of our high grade 67% Fe magnetite concentrate product.
This is where the plot thickens.......Ostensibly, arguably, these would auger well for our exports for China's green steel ambitions.
However, we are partnerred with Formosa Steel in our Iron Bridge operation. This is where it gets interesting.....Formosa Steel is a Vietnamese company financed by Taiwan. As we know, China has less than favourable relations with both Taiwan and Vietnam ( Vietnam's been getting angry with China's militarisation in waters adjacent to Vietnam.)
The question is....Will our Taiwanese/Vietnamese connections have any long term implications for our exports, given the increasing Simandou sourced high grade IO?
Interesting times we are living in, ladies and gentlemen. However, of course, the above complications may be counterbalanced by our increasing industrial connections in China.... and Twiggy's connections with high ranking Chinese officials ( Remember Chinese Premier Li Quang's visit to Fortescue's Perth green technology and test facility?)
So many factors to feed into the equation!
Any thoughts....anyone?
